In Luke 9:23 Jesus told his followers, "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me." Discipleship is not optional. 1 John 2:6 says, "Whoever says he abides in Jesus ought to walk in the same way in which he walked."
